Minimum 3 shifts per week | Evenings & weekends | Potential to extend

Want regular HCA shifts without committing to a permanent role? Bring your phlebotomy and ECG skills to an established, GP-led urgent-care service.

Leaders in Care is recruiting a Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to support patients redirected from A&E into an urgent primary-care pathway.

Working across Redditch and Worcester, you’ll join GPs and experienced clinical colleagues, with regular work over an initial six-month period. You’ll need to commit to at least three shifts per week, with flexibility around the days you can offer within the available shift patterns.

Why this role?

  • £15 per hour
  • Regular, ongoing temporary work over six months, with potential to extend
  • A choice of available evening and weekend shifts
  • Varied clinical work using your phlebotomy, ECG and patient-observation skills
  • An established service with experienced clinical colleagues
  • Dedicated support from Georgia at Leaders in Care throughout registration, compliance and placement

Available shifts

  • Monday–Friday: 3.30pm–10pm
  • Saturday–Sunday: 9.30am–4pm or 3.30pm–10pm

You must be available for a minimum of three shifts each week.

What you’ll do

Working within your competencies and HCA scope of practice, you’ll:

  • Carry out phlebotomy and venepuncture
  • Complete ECG recordings
  • Take and accurately document full clinical observations
  • Use NEWS2, recognise deterioration and escalate concerns promptly
  • Provide basic wound care where appropriate
  • Maintain clear electronic patient records
  • Follow infection prevention and safeguarding procedures

This is a busy, patient-facing service where calm communication, sound judgement and knowing when to seek clinical support are essential.

What you’ll need

  • Must have experience using EMIS.
  • Recent HCA experience in general practice, a PCN, urgent care, community services or a comparable clinical setting
  • Recent, formally signed-off phlebotomy/venepuncture competency
  • Recent practical competency in ECG recording
  • Experience taking clinical observations and providing basic wound care
  • A sound understanding of NEWS2, deterioration and escalation
  • Confidence using electronic patient records
  • Availability for three or more shifts per week across Redditch and Worcester

EMIS experience is highly desirable. Suture removal, Steri-Strip application, Care Certificate completion and additional primary-care competencies are welcomed but not essential.
