The role
As a Healthcare Assistant, you’ll support patients who have been redirected from A&E into a GP/HCA-led pathway. You’ll carry out phlebotomy, complete ECG recordings, take and document full clinical observations, and provide basic wound care where appropriate.
You’ll be confident recognising patient deterioration, using NEWS2 appropriately, escalating concerns promptly, and maintaining clear, accurate clinical records. This is a busy service, so you’ll need to work calmly, safely, and independently within the scope of your role.

We’re recruiting for a Healthcare Assistant to join an established GP-led Primary Care Unit, supporting patients streamed from A&E into an urgent primary-care pathway. You’ll work alongside GPs and experienced colleagues while delivering safe, responsive, patient-centred care.

The role

- Monday to Friday: 3.30pm–10pm
- Saturday and Sunday: 9.30am–4pm
- Saturday and Sunday: 3.30pm–10pm
What you’ll need
To be successful in this Healthcare Assistant position, you’ll have:
- Recent experience in a GP practice, PCN, urgent care, community service, or comparable clinical environment
- Recent, demonstrable and formally signed-off phlebotomy / venepuncture competency
- Recent practical competency in ECG recording
- Experience taking full clinical observations and undertaking basic wound care
- A sound understanding of NEWS2, patient deterioration, and escalation procedures
- Knowledge of infection prevention and control, safeguarding, and clinical record keeping
- Confidence using electronic patient records; EMIS experience is highly desirable
- The ability to manage patients professionally and independently within the HCA scope of practice
