This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious residential childcare leader to oversee a larger service, develop a strong staff team and deliver exceptional, child-centred care.

The home will provide a safe, nurturing and therapeutic environment for children and young people with emotional and behavioural needs. You will be responsible for ensuring that every child is safeguarded, listened to and supported to achieve positive outcomes.

The role

As Registered Manager, you will take overall responsibility for the day-to-day running of the home, including:

  • Providing effective leadership, direction and management to the residential care team.
  • Ensuring the home operates in full accordance with the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015, the Quality Standards, Ofsted requirements and the home’s Statement of Purpose.
  • Creating a stable, warm and child-centred environment where children feel safe, respected and able to thrive.
  • Maintaining strong safeguarding arrangements, ensuring concerns, incidents, missing-from-care episodes and allegations are identified, recorded and acted upon appropriately.
  • Leading care planning, risk assessment, behaviour support plans, placement matching, admissions and transitions.
  • Ensuring children’s views, wishes, identity, relationships and individual needs are at the centre of care delivery.
  • Driving positive outcomes in education, health, wellbeing, independence, family relationships and preparation for adulthood.
  • Overseeing staffing levels, rotas, on-call arrangements, safer recruitment, induction, supervision, appraisal and training.
  • Supporting, coaching and constructively challenging staff to maintain high standards of professional practice.
  • Managing Regulation 44 visits and action plans, alongside completing robust Regulation 45 Quality of Care Reviews.
  • Monitoring quality, safeguarding, incidents, complaints, restraints, staffing, training and children’s outcomes to identify trends and deliver continuous improvement.
  • Maintaining accurate records, statutory notifications and regulatory reports within required timescales.
  • Building effective relationships with social workers, placing authorities, families, schools, health professionals, police, safeguarding partners and Ofsted.
  • Managing the home’s budget, resources, health and safety arrangements, premises and operational risks.

About you

We are looking for a compassionate, resilient and accountable leader with a strong background in children’s residential care.

You will have:

  • At least two years’ experience within the last five years in children’s residential care.
  • At least one year’s experience supervising or managing staff in a care environment.
  • Previous experience as a Registered Manager, Deputy Manager or senior leader within a children’s residential home.
  • A Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare, or an equivalent qualification. Candidates working towards this qualification may be considered where they can meet regulatory timescales.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015, Quality Standards, statutory guidance and Ofsted inspection requirements.
  • Detailed safeguarding knowledge, including child protection, allegations management, missing-from-care procedures, exploitation, self-harm and multi-agency safeguarding.
  • Experience of leading teams, safer recruitment, staff development, supervision, appraisals and performance management.
  • Experience with placement matching, care planning, risk management, quality assurance and service improvement.
  • Confidence in producing high-quality Regulation 45 reports, audits, action plans and regulatory notifications.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills.
  • A full UK driving licence.
